Product Features
One Piece Meehanite Cast Iron Bed for Extreme Rigidity.
The one piece Meehanite cast iron bed fills most of the length and height of the machine to provide maximum rigidity and stability.
The bed of the machine is designed for maximum stability under extreme conditions, with the ability to absorb cutting forces and dampen vibration.
The massive rectangular shaped slideways are an integral part of the main bed casting and not bolt-on accessories. After stress relieving the slideways are induction hardened to a minimum of HS70 or HB480 and precision ground.
The slideways are cast at a 60 degree slope to ensure swift swarf evacuation from the cutting environment.
Incredible High Torque 4-Stage Geared Headstock.
The single box type casting provides the rigidity required to absorb the extreme cutting forces generated by high metal removal rates.
The hardened and ground spindle is manufactured from high quality alloy steel, and is carried on a double row of high precision Timken taper roller bearings to resist radial and axial loads during heavy cutting operations. Only Timken world renowned bearings are used in the headstock.
The headstock gearing is manufactured from EN 36 BS970-655 M13 material which has been heat treated and precision ground.
The four speed ranges are selectable by means of control 'M' functions or operator panel switch. Within each speed range the speed is completely variable by means of control 'S' function or operator panel twist knob.
The headstock gearing, spindle and auxiliary bearings are all lubricated by the automatic circulating refrigeration system.
Hollow spindle machines can be supplied with an extra chuck at the rear of the spindle to provide increased stability when supporting long workpieces.
Carriage and Cross-Slide High Class Transmission
The underside of both saddles are lined with Turcite B an extremely durable anti-friction material to ensure ease of movement and minimum wear over many years of production. High precision ballscrews from class 3C are utilized with pre-loaded nuts on both axes for backlash free transmission. The ballscrews are also pre-tensioned to compensate for any thermal expansion as the machine warms up with use.
Linear Scale Feedback for Accuracy and Repeatability.
Linear scales provide actual position feedback rather than assumed feedback from rotary pulse coders.
High Quality Telescopic Guards for Slideways Protection.
The ballscrews and slideways are protected by high quality stainless steel telescopic covers to prevent contamination with metal chips and coolant.
Massive Servo Turret with One Second Tool Change.
The TB... series electromechanical turrets are indexed by means of a brushless servomotor and shockless positioning mechanism. This heavy duty turret employs a conical clutch for high accuracy positioning and will always take the shortest path to the next tool selection. The turret is extremely efficient yet robust and practically maintenance free, complete with coolant ducts to carry pressurized coolant to the active tool station.
MAIN CHARACTERISTICS
Turret controlled by servomotor
Turret release without lifting the faceplate
Minimum indexing times
Bidirectional rotation
Life lubrication of the mechanical components
A spring system ensures the clamping of the turret in the absence of electrical power
Large dimension Hirth-toothed crowns
Two dynamic seals on the rotating disc
Easy access to all electrical components
300 mm deep tool holding disk
Programmable Tailstock for Convenient Operation.
The very substantial tailstock body is made of Meehanite cast iron and the honed bore houses a stainless sleel precision ground quill. The quill is heat treated and hardened to at least HRC45. A rotating centre mounted inside precision bearings is an integral part of the tailstock quill. To further enhance the rigidity and accuracy the quill is fittted with a large morse tapered centre. Both the tailstock body and the quill are operated by means of 'M' function command or control panel switch.
Fully Enclosed Splash Guard for Ultimate Operator Safety.
The full guard enclosure is fitted with two large sliding doors for easy access to the workpiece and cutting tools. The doors are fully interlocked to protect the operator during production runs, and spindle and axis movements are restricted when the doors are open. All guarding panels are specifically designed to aid the flow of swarf and coolant into the conveyor. The operators control panel is ergonomically designed to be carried on the right hand door of the machine and swivel as desired by the operator.
Fanuc Control System for Simplicity & Reliability.
Standard Accessories
Headstock Refrigeration for Normal Temperature at High Speed.
Automatic Lubrication System
Mobile Manual Pulse Generator
Rear Chuck Adaptor Plate
Three Phase Transformer
Chip Conveyor and Coolant Tank
The heavy duty chip conveyor sits directly on a very large capacity coolant tank. The conveyor and coolant tank extend under the full length of the cutting environment. The lift-up end of the conveyor and the coolant tank are mounted on castor wheels for easy extraction to facilitate cleaning. A mobile swarf bin / chip container is also provided.
Fanuc Manual Guide and Thread Repair Functions
Optional Accessories
Driven Tool Turret and C Axis Spindle Positioning
The TBMA... series of Baruffaldi Turrets are installed within the SB-50 when the machine not only used for turning, but also milling, drilling and tapping. This special turret is used in conjunction with the aditional C axis spindle positioning function.
MAIN CHARACTERISTIC
Only the tool in the working position is driven
Automatic engagement of rotating tool during turret indexing cycle
Utilizes DIN 69880 tooldisc
Every position on the disc can receive either toolholders with rotating or fixed tools
Compact overall dimensions of the "Driven tool system"
Coupling of the rotating tool is made via preloaded, multi-teeth Hirth clutch (without backlash) which assures the possibility of difficult milling operations
The electrical interface requirements for the TBMA turrets are the same as for the TB turrets
